MORNING
The morning after civilization collapsed,
I saw you dance in the streets.
Your eyes were glowing through your masks,
You there in your sheets
Wrapped ‘round your heads,
Doin’ your dance of death.
I gathered all my family around.
We hit on a plan.
There was no gasoline to be found.
We'd live off the land.
We took off that night,
Ready to fight.
Next day, we heard a bazaar.
We watched it from afar:
Men wielding scimitars,
Yelling "Allahu Akbar!"
As they severed prisoners' heads.
We took the long way around.
Didn't make a sound.
We opened some cans we found
Buried underground
Below a farmhouse,
Watched by curious cows.
We floated down the river to the sea.
Met some refugees.
They traded their fish to my family
For some dry salted beef.
They asked us to stay.
We all knelt and prayed.
They asked us to stay.
We all knelt and prayed.
They asked us to stay.
We all knelt and prayed.
They said we could stay…
