The Sentence

Got a black sky with billions of stars. Desert highway without any cars.
Body parts in my trunk.
She shouldn't have said what she said to me. Man's got a right to get drunk.

There's a shape by the side of the road. It's a man with a top heavy load.
I slow down. Now he's inside the car.
I ask him where he's headed. He says he ain't goin' far.

He said, "Accidents happen if planned that way." I said, "I don't know what you're trying to say."
He smiled and stared straight ahead. Something in his eyes was calm...no...dead.

He rolled down the window an inch. Said, "What did you do with the bitch?"
I told him I didn't catch his drift.
He said we both know what it was I done. Then he said, "Man, thanks for the lift."

Then he opened the door. He threw out the clothes that he wore.
He pulled out a gas can from under the seat.
He lit a cigarette and dropped the match. As he jumped out I noticed the scales on his feet.

The car exploded in a ball of flame. I landed in a ditch and forgot my name.
My clothes melted into my skin. I staggered down the road and knew I'd begin it all again.

Our hero took off on a one way trip.
Now he lives in a Moebius strip.
