Fingerprints of God

THE FINGERPRINTS OF GOD

I have come back from the dead, wearing someone else's head,
And I see the ones I left behind are paralyzed with dread.
I will be a good news bearer. I’ll alleviate your terror:
The fingerprints of God are found on every human error.

I was wandering on the other side
With a one-eyed dog who was my guide,
Who led me where the crack was wide,
I stepped into the great abyss
And saw the goddess' chrysalis.
I asked her would she answer this one question:
Will you show me my original face?

I have come back from the dead, wearing someone else's head,
And I see the ones I left behind are paralyzed with dread.
I will be a good news bearer. I’ll alleviate your terror:
The fingerprints of God are found on every human error.

Just that one question I did ask.
She handed me a metal mask
And said I had a simple task:
Just kill the guide dog at my side
And make the chrysalis my bride
Then wait to see the butterfly emerging
From the womb of time and space.

Now the past is dead to me.
Now I finally can see My slavery was just a different way of breaking free.
But you know it’s even rarer when the evil man is fairer,
And the fingerprints of God are found on every human error.

I am floating above a flower, while the ants devour
A dead dog’s eye that’s still gazing at the sky.

Before you had a face, you lived in no one place.
Your gypsy soul was on the move beyond all time and space.
For you I’ll be a wearer of the mask of the secret sharer:
The fingerprints of God are found on every human error.

I have come back from the dead, where the souls are all misled
Into seeking a perfection that is trapped inside the head.
I will be a good news bearer. I’ll alleviate your terror.
The fingerprints of God are found on every human error.

The loss of innocence between innocence and loss
Causes us to nail a man upon a wooden cross.
I will be a good news bearer. I’ll alleviate your terror.
The fingerprints of God are found on every human error.
