Only You Can Hurt Me

My soul is a sun filled room. My heart has many chambers.
My mind is a midnight bloom. My body moves through danger.
Though my friends may all desert me, only you can hurt me.

My wife is a Catholic saint. My daughter's a tomboy girl.
My neighbors are a blank. My conscience is a pearl.
Though others try to divert me, only you can hurt me.

After all these years, as we grow a common heart,
We grow closer and closer and closer apart.

My path is a leafy vine that climbs a wall called life.
My life is a windblown pine. I carve it with my pen knife.
These messages alert me: Only you can hurt me.

After all these years, as we grow a common heart,
We grow closer and closer and closer apart.
