When the Wicked Prosper

The way they taught it in school, we were a nation of laws, not men.

He said, "You cheat yourself when you don't do your best.
"Only you know if you fail or pass."

We loved Lady Justice. Then we lost her.
Guess it's God's will when the wicked,
When the wicked, when the wicked, when the wicked prosper.

I saw college boys fake insanity just so they could dodge the draft.

I wrote a movie 'bout a virtuous man who did the right thing and won the girl.
A producer with a Hollywood tan stole it from me and won the world.

Now I wait on him at Spago. He likes clams and pasta.
Guess it's God's will when the wicked,
When the wicked, when the wicked, when the wicked prosper.

So I became a vigilante peeling back the criminal veil.
This obsession did entrap me, and now I live in my own jail.

I'm no avenging angel, just a sick impostor.
Guess it's God's will when the wicked,
When the wicked, when the wicked, when the wicked prosper.
